The battles of a neurodivergent author

To finish or to start… THAT is the battle! Well, it’s one of the battles. LOL! I’m constantly working on multiple books at once. That’s just how my brain works. Sometimes a scene pops into my head and I have to write it immediately, even though it might not fit at all into the part of the book I’m currently working on or it might not even be a scene from the same book! I find myself constantly jumping from one novel to another and I essentially piece-meal my manuscripts together from random scenes that I think have to be part of their story.

The most frustrating part for me isn’t coming up with a new storyline, it’s completing the current book. I might be working intensely on one book and suddenly a scene involving other characters pops into my head and I have to switch gears, move into their book and add the new scene. Sometimes the scenes are characters I haven’t even written yet, so that begins an entirely new book. Sometimes I get so immersed in the book I’m writing I keep going and struggle to break out of it even when I’m so close to finishing the previous book. ARGH!!

I’ve shared before, that I wrote The Unexpected Fix over a decade before the second and third books in the series. The funny thing about this isn’t the long gap between them, it’s that The Unexpected Fix is really the third book chronologically in the series. They are all stand alones in the same series, but they were written backwards.

Many years after writing TUF, I went back and re-read it. I was working on another book at the time (of course I was!) and completely put the brakes on it because I got curious as to how a protective guy like Parker would have felt about his best friend dating, and eventually marrying, his baby sister. And that’s how Keeping Her Secret came to be. I’m looking forward to getting this book out in the coming months, so be on the lookout for updates! But in the meantime, I’ve got to stop writing Parker & Annalise’s son’s story long enough to finish editing Keeping Her Secret so I can get it on shelves! LOL!!! And for the record, all the kid’s stories from the Sweet & Spicy Small Town Series have been written out of order too. When their story hits me, I write it. I’ll have to work the timelines out before publication, but that’s a problem for another day.
