Small Town Funnies

Clover, like I said, is a small town. When the news broke that I had a published book and not only that, but that the book I had written was spicy, it was great gossip! My parents, husband and I have all had some pretty funny conversations and I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing all about the curiosity surrounding my writing.

  1. My parents went to a shop in town where they are regular customers. They are retired and do most things together, so they were both in the shop at the time. Several employees were there and finally one of them got brave enough to ask my dad, “Have you read the book?” My dad was a little confused at first, he’s an avid reader and probably had read 5 books that week alone. Seeing his confusion, she tried to help him out with, “You know…the BOOK!”

    “Oh! BJ’s book?”

“Yeah! THAT book! I don’t read, but I’ve heard it’s spicy and goooood! “

  2. Another person my parents came across that wanted to talk about the book said, “I haven’t read it yet, but my mama did and she said she drank a bottle of wine, smoked a cigarette and she was good for the night! She said it was great!” To be honest, this is probably my favorite candid review- I wish she would write this as her actual review of my book on Amazon or GoodReads!

  3. A local book club, mostly women between mine and my mom’s ages, chose my book as their book club reading for the month. When my mom heard this at a party she pulled a friend in the book club group over to the side and said, “XYZ, BJ’s book is spicy, it’s practically porn!”

She replied, “I’ve heard! Our group will love it! We can’t wait to read it!”

  4. And the one that got my husband was an older gentleman. He’s close to my father’s age and he is also an avid reader, like my dad. He was talking to my husband and mentioned that he heard I wrote a book. My husband confirmed that I had indeed written and published my first book and added that “it’s a little spicy”.

The other man asked him, “Is it like a mom book?”

My husband wasn’t quite sure what he meant by that question, so his answer: “Well, they got to be mom’s somehow, so I guess so?”
